The Maldon Twilight Dinner proved to be a big hit last Saturday night with 600 people dining in Main Street Maldon and then dancing the night away to popular band Forever 80’s.
There was a sea of pink, orange and red wigs (plus a rather large school of mullets), an array of colourful costumes and some of the most outlandish make-up you ever did see, as people went above and beyond to dress to impress with the ‘80’s theme.
Organiser, Pamela Jewson, of Maldon Eats Drinks Events, said people certainly raised the bar when it came to costuming this year.
“It was amazing!
“And I did notice there were a lot of men in heels and big boots on the dance floor – I honestly don’t know how they did it!”
Ms Jewson said the event went really well.
“People just had so much fun,” Ms Jewson said. “After a year of lockdowns, I think they were just relieved to be out and about again and feeling normal.”
Ms Jewson said the band was sensational.
“Forever 80’s is a touring band - they normally tour overseas and they’re not normally available here but because of COVID we were able to secure them for their first gig in 12 months.”
She said she received a lot of positive feedback about the band, the delicious food and the event itself.
“I’ve already got 300 people booked in for next year.”
She said there were no security incidents on the night.
“We normally have 1000 people and this year we were down to 600 (because of COVID restrictions) so there wasn’t a lot of profit but any profit we do make will go back into the community – mainly to the groups who volunteered to help with the road closures, fencing, washing up and so on.
“And a big thank you to the many, many volunteers who gathered to make it happen. It wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
