Richard Dennis Stacey was born at Brokenback near Baringhup in 1877 and worked for much of his life as a miner.  He also had an inventive bent and applied for patents related to rock drills and the moulding of concrete pipes.  He married Margaret Herbert in 1907 and together they had five children.
